The hydroelectric power plant of França is located in the region of Juquitiba, about 90 kilometers from the city of São Paulo. Its construction was initiated in 1954 and finished in 1957, entering into operation the following year. It was the first hydroelectric constructed by CBA utilizing the waters of the River Juquiá for the generation of energy.
The average fall is of 90 meters
and the lake produced by the damming has 12.7 square
kilometers, allowing an average generation of 155 GWh/year.
The dam has a height of 48 meters, from the lowest point of the foundations and, its construction consumed nearly 70 thousand cubic meters of concrete.
That unit operates with two turbines
of vertical axis manufactured by Escher Wyss, of Ravensburg
and two generators Brown Boveri. The transmission line
to the plant of CBA, in the municipality of Alumínio,
SP, has 42 kilometers of extension.
