Canoas I and II
Canoas complex, constituted by the hydroelectric power plants Canoas I and Canoas II, is located on the border between the states of São Paulo and Paraná. The power plant Canoas I is between the municipalities of Cândido Mota (SP) and ltambaracá (PR) and Canoas II, between Palmital (SP) and Andirá (PR).
Its construction was initiated
in 1992 and stopped in 1995. Only in 1996 it was reinitiated,
when a consortium was formed between Duke Energy International
Geração Paranapanema (Privatização
CESP) and CBA. The power plants were deployed along
the River Paranapanema and inaugurated in 1999.
The complex has a total installed power of 154.5 MW, with Canoas I responsible for 82.5 MW and Canoas II for 72 MW. CBA receives 50.3% of energy generated.
The power plants have bulb type turbine generators, that operate underwater.
