Poços de Caldas
The bauxite mines in Poços de Caldas, discovered in 1919, have been explored by CBA since 1941, when the company was founded. At that time all the extracted mineral was directed to the production of aluminum sulfate, employed in water treatment.
In 1955, by the time its plant started operations, CBA gradually increased production in the Poços de Caldas unit in order to supply the aluminum production in the new production complex. Current total volume shipment has reached one million tons per annum.
The bauxite in the region occurs at the top and mid slopes of the hills, in 3 to 4 meters-thick layers, under a thin layer of soil, which is stocked for future recovery in the phase of rehabilitation of the mined land.
This mining unit has been certified for compliance with ISO 14001.
