CBA has an effective commitment to environmental preservation, which is integrated to its policy of total quality, responsible for the orientation of its attitude and actions.
The initiatives and practical actions, in that sense, are characterized by investments of resources in hundreds of technological and scientific projects related to the environment and its preservation, bringing improvements to the activities of mining, electric energy generation, administration and industrial production.
In addition, the CBA orientated 27% of its industrial area exclusively to the natural preservation and the reforestation with native species and promotes programs of environmental education, directed to the communities, employees and their family.
The commitments of CBA in environmental administration involve:
- Rigorous compliance of
the guidelines and operational procedures ISO 14,000
in the mining areas;
- Recovery of the topographical
conformation and native vegetation of the mined areas;
- Conservation of approximately
28,000 hectares of Atlantic forest, in areas of permanent
preservation, around the system of hydroelectric generation
of the Juquiá River;
- Implementation of a system
of capture and treatment of industrial effluents in
its factory - in Alumínio, SP – in a
waterproof lagoon with storage capacity of 70,000
m³ wich meets environmental standards, perfectly adequate for the requirements of
environmental legislation (closed circuit for industrial
water);
- Implementation of the
system of capture and treatment of gas effluents in
the pot rooms of aluminum electrolysis, controlling
the emission of pollutant gases to the atmosphere.
As a system model, the CBA adopted
requirements defined by ISO 14,001, complemented by
the guidelines and concepts described by ISO 14,004.
After recommendation, the CBA was certified, reaching, in this manner, one of its objectives. However, it is in the constant monitoring of its indicators and the compliance with the well established environmental objectives that the Company demonstrates its commitment with the continuous improvement of its System, not only complying with the legislation, but also with the declared principles in its own environmental policy.
