Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio industrial complex, located in Alumínio municipality, reports expressive figures, which demonstrate its greatness: with around 700 thousand m² of built area and around 5,5 thousand employees, it is the largest integrated aluminum industry in the world, carrying out from bauxite processing to product manufacturing.
Every day, bauxite loadings coming for CBA Ore Departments, Minas Gerais state, go to alumina section, where bauxite is chemically processed to obtain the aluminum oxide (alumina). From there, it goes to the reduction rooms and to casting, to obtain primary aluminum, which is the raw material used later on in the plastic transformation sections: profile and tube extrusion; wire drawing and cable stringing; panes, coils and tiles lamination.
In September 2005, the expansion activities that led CBA to be ranked as the second largest primary aluminum producer in the country were finished, increasing its production from 340 to 400 thousand tons a year. In the beginning of 2006, it was implemented a new 2000-millimeter-wide pane and sheet lamination, with capacity of 120 tons a year. Another expansion project already going on, intends to increase these numbers to 470 thousand tons a year at the beginning of 2007.
